HISTORY

Cantina Cooperativa Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano, a fundamental element in the history of the area, was founded in 1972 and is composed today of 152 members and 400 hectares. Since its birth, the winery has worked  not only on the improvement of its wines but also to safeguard the territory and its image for the benefit of the entire community. A practical example of this important activity has been the promotion of the acknowledgement of the Denominazione di Origine Controllata for Morellino di Scansano in 1978 and of the Docg in 2007. In reaching this important objective for the whole area of Maremma, the role of President Benedetto Grechi – experienced producer who was then helped by the previous Director, Santino Ceccarelli, in charge of the management of the winery – was fundamental.

Since the summer of 2010, the role of Director belongs to Sergio Bucci, who has a degree in viticulture and oenology from the Faculty of Agricultural Studies at the University of Pisa and a significant experience in the world of Morellino. With his help the winery is now focused on further improvements with attention both to large scale retail trade and Ho.Re.Ca. while renewing the image of the winery, combining a modern and dynamic vision with the tradition of an area whose history goes back to the Etruscans.
